In 2010, I experienced what I thought was just another migraine. Since childhood, I’d been familiar with hemiplegic migraines: visual disturbances leading to tunnel vision, head pain, and tingling down one side of my body. Over the years, Chiropractic care had helped me experience far fewer and less intense migraines – going from several a month to just a handful a year.

But this episode was different. A week in, the head pain wasn’t as sharp, but my vision was still completely blurred. I couldn’t drive, work, shop, or do even simple tasks without help. Panic attacks followed because I couldn’t see. At the time, I was working at a gym reception desk – a job that left me drained and uninspired. Life felt cloudy in more ways than one.

I leaned into what I knew helped me navigate challenges: regular chiropractic checks, massage support, and medical testing to rule out anything serious. After weeks of no change, we discovered my optic nerve had become inflamed, filling the back of my eye. For almost six weeks, the world was hidden from me. Then Greg suggested using a different approach with Chiropractic – ABC™. Within a week, my eyesight began to return. The world came back into focus – and with it, so did my perspective on life.

As my eyes adjusted, so did my inner clarity. I realised I didn’t want to keep living on autopilot, caught up in jobs and places that didn’t inspire me. Greg and I were already discussing moving to South Africa in the future (for those who don’t know us, I am Scottish and we were living in Glasgow), but I knew I needed to make changes right away.

One evening, I sat down and wrote out, in detail, what my ideal next job would look like: the kind of work, the environment, the level of responsibility, the salary, even the holiday time. I let myself focus clearly on what I wanted instead of what I didn’t want. A week later, out of the blue, I received a phone call offering me that exact position – without having applied anywhere.

That experience taught me something profound: when we find focus – whether in our bodies, our health, or our lives – we begin to see with clarity. Focus isn’t about forcing, it’s about aligning. Just as our eyes adapt to light so we can see clearly, our lives adapt when we choose to bring attention to what matters most.

This month, as we explore the theme of Focus, I invite you to pause and ask yourself: What would life look like if it came back into focus for you? Where might clarity be waiting to emerge if you gave it space?

Sometimes, it’s not about doing more. It’s about seeing clearly.
