The most positive research on Chiropractic care is on it’s effectiveness for relief of back pain. This stems from various causes, including accidents, sports injuries, and muscle strains. Other common complaints that Chiropractors see daily include pain in the neck, arms, and legs, and headaches.
A 2018 Gallup study found that over 60% of US adults report having experienced back or neck pain severe enough to require care from a healthcare provider at some point in their lives.
The burden of low back pain is made worse by the fact that many treatments included under the umbrella of usual medical care, such as NSAIDs, steroid injections, spinal surgery and opioids, do not significantly decrease pain and may result in serious side effects.
Instigated largely as the resultant opioid crisis, many government and private organisations, including the FDA, the Joint Commission, and the American College of Physicians are now recommending the use of non-drug, non-surgical therapies for chronic pain, including low back pain. Chiropractic care is one of these recommendations.
How Can Chiropractic Help?
Your nervous system is the master control system of your body and is housed within your spine. Proper alignment of your spine will enable your body to function optimally. Chiropractors are trained to detect, analyse and correct misalignments of the spine that are causing interference to your nervous system. This interference to your nervous system can result in symptoms such as back pain, neck pain, headaches etc.
The source of this pain may not necessarily be where the pain is and your body functions as a whole ecosystem, not as individual parts like a machine. That is why we do a thorough health history, full examination, including orthopaedic, neurological and Chiropractic testing, digital postural assessment and when clinically necessary, full spine X-rays.
As Chiropractors, we not only help with many types of pain but also help to prevent problems in the future and help you to get healthy and stay healthy for a lifetime.
